The C5 Youth Foundation concept was conceived in 1999 by John Alm, former CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises. His vision was to help high potential youth with limited resources become successful and responsible leaders in their communities. Investing his own resources, John created the Camp Paintrock program and began working with young people in the Los Angeles area.
Building on the goals and philosophy of the Camp Paintrock program, the C5 Youth Foundation was created in 2001 as a 501(c)(3) organization. Thanks to start up funding provided by Coca-Cola Enterprises and the Coca-Cola Company, the program was expanded to four sites including Texas, New England, Georgia and finally incorporating the Paintrock program in Southern California. The C5 Texas progam was the first independent site to be established and has been serving Texas youth since 2003.
In 2008 the National C5 Youth Foundation was disbanded and each of the sites became an independent 501(c)(3). At that point the C5 Youth Foundation of Texas was established to operate the Texas program. The four sites continue to operate as the Association of C5 Youth Programs, working together to develop new curriculum, provide a consistent program model, advocate for opportunities for our youth and provide assessment for program improvement. Since our inception, over 600 Texas youth have experienced C5 Texas’ life-changing program and leadership experiences.
