Dear C5 Texas friends and supporters:
The C5 Youth Foundation is pleased to update you on our exciting leadership transition. This past spring Chuck Burkhart, who has been a strong leader for our organization since it became a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2008, retired after a long career of helping at-risk children graduate high school, attend college and become community leaders through C5 Texas. We are extremely thankful for Chuck’s hard work and dedication over the years. Without Chuck, there is no way the C5 Youth Foundation of Texas would be the success it is today.
In anticipation of his retirement Chuck worked with the C5 Texas Board of Trustees to select a successor with the same passion and dedication to helping under-served Texas youth. Board member and NHL All-Star Goalie Marty Turco was the natural choice.
Marty Turco spent nine of his 11 NHL seasons as the starting goaltender for the Dallas Stars and currently holds the franchise record for regular season games played, wins, and shutouts. He is a three-time All Star and won the Dallas Stars community service award six of the nine seasons he was with the team. Marty is no stranger to non-profit and charity work. In 2006, Marty earned the Eighth Annual NHL Foundation Player Award for his charitable impact and contributions. Since retirement, Marty has established his own charity golf tournament, served on the C5 Texas Board and chaired the first Behind the Masque Gala benefitting C5 Texas in the fall of 2015.
Chuck Burkhart said of Marty, “Marty has been a great friend to C5. He is a passionate leader and C5 will benefit from his forward-thinking perspective and influential business and personal network.”
With their shared backgrounds in education studies, Marty and his wife Kelly have always been actively involved in helping our community’s children. Marty aims to build stronger business relationships, and provide more awareness about C5 in order to help the program grow. Marty said of the opportunity, “I am looking forward to serving as President in an organization where I am already deeply invested in its mission. I hope to make a significant impact in the Foundation’s future success as well as help improve the lives of at-risk youth across Texas.“
At this exciting time in C5 Texas history, we would like to take the time to meet with you, our supporters and shareholders and share with you the exciting things we have in store for the C5 Youth Foundation of Texas. Rest assured our mission and programs will remain the same. However, we plan to diligently increase support for our organization, raise our profile, and position C5 Texas to serve as many youth as possible. Our Director of Grants, Nichole Nynas will be contacting you in the near future to set up a meeting with our new President Marty Turco. In the meantime, feel free to contact her at 214-682-3769 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions or wish to set up a meeting immediately.
I thank you for your past and continued support of C5 Texas as we move towards the future.
Deb Mammen, Chairman
C5 Texas Board of Directors
